In cirrhosis, recent limited thrombosis can be observed with imaging every 3 months, whereas recent more than 50 percent occlusion or main portal or mesenteric involvement favors anticoagulation; chronic complete cavernous transformation is not routinely anticoagulated.
Budd-Chiari management can progress from anticoagulation and treatment of complications to angioplasty or stenting, TIPS, and liver transplantation.
Reveal the next step at each severity level.
Begin therapeutic anticoagulation and treat the underlying prothrombotic condition.
These clots have a strong recanalization or propagation-prevention rationale.
Observe with repeat cross-sectional imaging every 3 months when there is no ischemia and occlusion is less than 50 percent.
